Some people thought that Luis Enrique might lose the plot by not starting Lionel Messi against Atletico Madrid, a team that is very famously known for being so impressive at playing defensively. Barcelona has been a bit fortunate to be able to equalize from a Neymar freekick. Just in the nick of time, Enrique made the sub that changes the outcome of the game and thus Lionel Messi delivers yet again.
If I were Luis Enrique however, I would have started him right from the get-go. As he is the most talented dribbler in the club, I see him as the key into unlocking the defense of Atletico Madrid. Perhaps Enrique has certain considerations into putting Lionel Messi at the bench. It could be that he is not 100 percent fit at the time and Enrique doesn't want to risk his best player into being injured.
